Hello world!

Welcome to this brand new blog and my very first post!  The aim of my musings here will be to document the journey as my husband and I embark on a possible move abroad.  That is abroad from the UK.  We currently live in Manchester, England and are negotiating with K’s firm to be posted to South East Asia.

Some of my postings will be background, thoughts, highs, lows, etc. and some will be actual news relating to the progress of our mission.

If all goes to plan we’ll move to Ha Noi, Vietnam in March 2012.  So, welcome along on the journey I really look forward to the pleasure of your company, your input and encouragement as we embark on our plan to become contemporary expats.

About Karen Ormiston

After a whirlwind of new experiences, challenges and adventures 2.5 years after moving to Hanoi, Vietnam, we found ourselves footloose and fancy free with relatively few ties to any particular place. Hubby is only semi working and mine is portable so location is not an issue. Our kids have scattered far and wide and parents who are still alive enjoy support when available but not ready for anything intensive. So we are in a strange and unusual place - young, fit and healthy with no strong links to any particular community. The time was right to spend 6 months in Miskin, near Cardiff, exploring my heritage and tracing family before moving to the stunning town of Vejer de la Frontera at the beginning of 2015 to embark on the next stage of life's great adventure.

    Hi,
I came across your blog while researching Ha Noi. When I read the first post I was happily surprised to see that we are in similar situations and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of your posts. My husband and I may possibly be moving to Ha Noi in Aug 2012. We would also be moving our dog. I look forward to following your journey and hopefully picking up some handy tips along the way!

    • Hi Laura, Sorry I didn’t reply sooner I’ve only just noticed your comment. Are you moving from the UK? I’ll be happy to share any and all info I can – let me know anything specific as it comes up.
We have less than a month to go now so I’m expecting things to go into some kind of over drive, it’s all a bit calm and quiet at the moment – calm before the storm perhaps!
Great to hear from you, keep in touch.
      x
